RS232 - RS485 Conversion

All meters and transducers (that have communication capability) currently manufactured by us use a two wire, RS485 bus interface.

Connection of an RS485 bus to an RS232 port on a PC for example, requires the use of a converter.
An Automatic Drive Control converter is recommended for this purpose.

If MultiView is to be used, the use of an automatic drive control converter is essential as the software does not control the hardware hand-shake pins in the PC's port (see RTS control below).

A suitable device, K2-ADE can be ordered from KK Systems Ltd.

RTS Control.
The Request To Send pin of a port is used as a data direction signal to an RS485 controller. The controller switches from transmit to receive or receive to transmit on the state of the RTS pin.
Many RS485 application programs have RTS control written into them.
MultiView was specifically written for Windows making use of the Microsoft Foundation Class but RTS control, although written into the software, does not perform as expected. Hence the need to use an automatic drive control converter.
